The Directors, Mr and Mrs West, have been in the Care industry since 1985, their daughter Mandy Thorn joined them in the business in 1994.
This philosophy, which Mr and Mrs West have been evolving since purchasing the original Uplands Nursing Home in Dorrington in 1985, is based on providing the highest quality nursing care within a homely environment.
The Uplands at Oxon is a new, purpose built care home and is the result of five years of planning to move the existing home from Dorrington, to the new Shrewsbury based site here at Oxon.
The result is a state of the art care home which is light and airy, with four separate units of 20 single en-suite rooms, two of the units is specially designed with the needs of patients suffering from dementia, and a Guest Suite.
The Uplands at Oxon is accredited to the Gold Standard Framework for End of Life Care and was one of the first five homes in the UK to reach Beacon Status.
We are fully equipped for this specialist area of care. The Uplands’ nursing team is skilled in providing care for the disabled, the chronic sick and the terminally ill, including the provision of convalescent care, respite and day care.
Our objectives for our service are to care for patients, ensuring at all times that their dignity, privacy and wellbeing is catered for and respected and to provide all necessary care for as long as they are resident in the home.
Our focus is on person centred care and each individual has their own Care Plan, which is drawn-up with his or her preferences, problems identified, the action that needs to be taken and, where appropriate, an outcome is specified.
To provide where possible, freedom of choice as to how their care is delivered and to focus on the opportunities to rehabilitate the service user to achieve the best outcome for their package of care.
To enable wherever possible individuals to safely return to their home if that is their wish and that of their relatives.
Dietary needs are catered for with special diets provided where necessary. Our Catering Manager ensures that each individual patient’s likes and dislikes are taken into account and a home cooked varied and nutritional menu is provided at all times. There is always fresh fruit available and home cooked cakes are regularly served.
At all times there are qualified nurses on duty and they are always available to talk to patients and their relatives about their Care Plan and/or their condition. Senior staff is always happy to meet with patients and relatives at a mutually convenient time.
