Coaching and Mentoring : Introduction

The National Skills Academy for Social Care is developing advice and support for those working within the field of social care on coaching and mentoring.. Visitors to the site will be able to

  • learn more about coaching and mentoring
  • consult a register of experienced and qualified coaches
  • find guidance to help them select, and contract with, a coach.

Our aim is to promote coaching and mentoring across social care as a key to improved care delivery. The Academy will improve access to high-quality coaches and mentors for people working at all levels within social care. This site will:

  • Describe coaching and mentoring and explain the differences between them.
  • Set out the benefits of coaching and mentoring.
  • Explain what coaches can offer and how they work.
  • Provide advice on how to choose a coach to work with.
  • Provide information on coaches through a quality assured database.
  • Provide useful coaching and mentoring links.
  • Provide information on mentor training and good practice in mentoring.
  • Give examples of good practice and success stories.
