
Michael Preston-Shoot is Professor of Social Work and Dean of the
Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at the University of Bedfordshire,
England.
He was Chair of the Joint University Council Social Work Education,
which represents the perspectives of United Kingdom social work
education in higher education institutions.
He was Editor of Social Work Education: The International Journal
between 1993 and 2006 and was Managing Editor of the European Journal of
Social Work between 2003 and 2007. He is one of the Founding Editors of
the journal Ethics and Social Welfare.
He was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education
Academy in 2005. His research and writing has concentrated on the
interface between law and social work practice, on which in 2005 he
co-authored a systematic review on teaching, learning and assessment of
law in social work education for the Social Care Institute for
Excellence (SCIE).
He has subsequently co-authored a resource guide and ten e-learning
objects on the subject of law and social work, also published by SCIE.
He has also undertaken research and published in the areas of social
work education, group work, the involvement of service users in social
work education and research, and on the needs and service outcomes for
young people in public care and older people requiring care in the
community.
